Darlene Rae Quaife

Darlene Rae Quaife, 60, Lenexa, died Jan.1, 1993, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Unity Church of Overland Park. The family suggests contributions to the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City. Mrs. Quaife was a lifelong area resident. She was a legal secretary for Wallace Saunders Austin Brown & Enochs for 20 years before she retired. She was a member of the Craft and Miniature Club of Kansas City and was past president of the Lovers of Small Things. She attended Northeast Oklahoma State College in Tahlequah.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Quaife of the home; two sons, Richard Budd, Houston, and James Budd, Las Vegas; a daughter, Charlene Henning, Wichita; a stepson, Thomas Quaife, Olathe; her mother, Geraldine Wilkinson, St. Joseph; a sister, Barbara Trifkovic, Kansas City; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Kenneth M. Quaife

Kenneth M. Quaife, 69, Lenexa, KS, died May 15, 1995, at his home. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, IA. Friends may call 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Quaife was born in Ames and attended Iowa State University and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949. He lived in Omaha until 1965 when he moved to the Kansas City area. He was Station Manager for radio stations KBEA and KBEQ in Kansas City. He also had been an account executive for various radio stations in the Kansas City area. He most recently was self-employed conducting listener preference surveys for radio stations. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Thomas J. Quaife, Olathe; three sisters, Dorothy Fribley, Ames, Margaret McBeath, Akron, OH, and Betty Caine, Monett, MO; and three grandchildren, Laurie Quaife, Scott Quaife and Patrick Quaife.

J. Murray Wallace

PONTIAC -- J. Murray Wallace, 88, of 21 Crystal Court died at 6 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 1996, at St. James Hospital. 

Born July 27, 1907, in Livingston County to William S. and Grace Quaife Wallace, he married Laura F. Green on Dec. 21, 1935, in Bloomington. She died Sept. 15, 1950. He later married Louise Buss Lee on Dec. 27, 1958, in Champaign. She survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, James M. Jr. of Peoria and Herbert Lee of Orlando; two daughters, Susan Bush of Pontiac and Mary Lee Knack of Flanagan; one brother, George Q. of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  

He attended the University of Illinois for one year and received his bachelor's degree from Illinois State Normal University. He did graduate work at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo.

He began teaching in Rutland. He then was principal and a teacher in Forrest. He later moved to Douglas Grade School in Pekin and then taught and coached varsity track at Pekin Community High School for five years.  

He later was principal and coach at Freeport High School. He then moved to Colo, Iowa, and taught and coached baseball, basketball and cross country in Zearing, Iowa, from 1944 to 1952. He also farmed in the Colo area. 

He then moved to Champaign in 1952, where he worked for Minneapolis Moline Farm Machinery Co. He returned to teaching in 1958 in Eureka and served as principal of Congerville Grade School until 1963. 

He went to Roanoke-Benson School District, where he was principal of Benson Grade School and Junior High for three years. He later moved to Pontiac in 1963, where he taught and served as principal for Washington, Lincoln and Central schools, retiring in 1974.

He was a member of Pontiac Lions Club, where he served as a director and founder of the Lions Club Junior Olympics for 19 years. He was a volunteer official at the University of Illinois indoor track meets for 27 years.

He served on the board of Boys & Girls Club of Pontiac for 15 years, was one of its founders and served as president for two years. 

He was an original member of the Livingston County Mental Health Board, for which he served as president. 

He was inducted into the Pontiac Township High School Tribe of Indians Hall of Fame for cross country and track in 1995. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pontiac. He also was a member of Pontiac Elks Club and was a life member of Evenglow Guild. 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at his church. The Revs. George Russell and Gordon Peabody will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Harris-Martin- Burke Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in South Side Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Pontiac Boys & Girls Club or to the Institute for Human Resources

Ethel Amanda Hargrove

Ethel Amanda Hargrove, 86, died Monday, March 21, 1994 of pneumonia at Parkview Community Hospital in Riverside. No public services are planned.   The Neptune Society is handling cremation arrangements.  

Mrs. Hargrove, who was born in Grand Marais, Minn., lived in Riverside for 52 years.  She was a nurse at Sherman Indian High School in Riverside for five years before retiring in 1979. Previously, she had worked at Riverside General Hospital from 1942 until 1946 and at Parkview Community Hospital from 1946 until 1970.   She graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in 1928.  

Mrs. Hargrove is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Derrera of Riverside; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Martha Quaife of Grand Marais, Minn

Clarence E. Quaife  

Clarence E. Quaife, 78, died Friday, July 7, 1995  at Baptist Hospital East.

He was a native of Galesburg, Ill., a retired physician, past staff president at Baptist Hospital East, an Army veteran of World War II, a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Louisville Boat Club, the Antique Automobile Club and the Knox College and University of Louisville alumni associations.

Survivors: his wife, the former Mary Ann Kamman; a daughter, Anne Q. Boone; a son, Robert H. Quaife; and three grandchildren.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 330 N. Hubbards Lane. Burial: Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation: Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, 2-6 p.m. Sunday. Memorial gifts: Knox College, in Galesburg, Ill., or charity.

Mary Ann Kamman Quaife 

Mrs. Clarence E. Quaife Jr., died Saturday, August 29, 1998 at Jefferson Manor.

She was the former Mary Ann Kamman, a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and Louisville Boat Club and former president of Woman's Club of Louisville.

Survivors: a daughter, Anne Q. Boone; a son, Robert H. Quaife; a brother, Robert H. Kamman; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Graveside service: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Cave Hill. Visitation: Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, 3-7 p.m. Monday.  Memorial gifts: Woman's Club of Louisville.

Walter Meyer  

Walter A. Meyer Sr., 82, of Grand Island died Monday, May 4, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Revs. Tom Ryan and Mike Stutzman will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday with a Scripture wake service and rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the family.  

Mr. Meyer was born on Dec. 24, 1915, at Palmyra to Conrad and Mary (Buckholtz) Meyer. He lived in Colorado from 1922 until 1927, when he moved to Grand Island, where he grew up and was educated. 

He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on Oct. 24, 1941, served with the 135th Army Air Force in the East Indies, Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and Papua and was discharged on Oct. 4, 1945, with the rank of sergeant.  

He married Erlene Stauss on Sept. 17, 1946, at Marysville, Kan. He worked in construction from 1949 to 1950, when they moved to Grand Island. He began working for Con Agra in 1951. He was assistant elevator superintendent and retired in 1975 after 24 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Eagles.   

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Walter Meyer Jr. of Wheatland, Wyo., John Meyer of Orofino, Idaho, and Frank Meyer of Grand Island; six daughters, Barbara Kucera, Sharon Cemper, June Quaife and Lisa Meyer, all of Grand Island, Jean Shoopman of Ogallala and Suzanne Stutzman of Phoenix; 21 grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 21 step great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by four grandchildren; four brothers, John, Clarence, Harvey and Melvin; and three sisters, Ethel, Evelyn and Viola.

Vida M. Quaife 

Hastings resident Vida M. (Lowder) Quaife, 93, of The Kensington died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.   

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home. 

Mrs. Quaife was born Oct. 2, 1903, to Charles and Cora (Leech) Lowder in Westerville. She grew up on a farm. On Nov. 10, 1923, she married the Rev. Otto A. Quaife.  

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Women.

Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Merna Greer of Beatrice; one son, Merton A. Quaife of Omaha; three sisters, Iva Wand of Ansley, Ruth Sysel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Ann Reid of Longmont, Colo.; one brother, Lyndon Lowder of Westerville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers, two of which were infants.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.

Otto A. Quaife

Hastings resident the Rev. Otto A. Quaife, 96, of The Kensington, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at his home. 

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Private family burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. There is no visitation. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements. 

The Rev. Quaife was born Dec. 10, 1902, to Stanton A. and Clara M. (Goodrich) Quaife at Robinson, Kan. He married Vida Lowder. He served for 44 years as a United Methodist minister of the Nebraska Conference. His wife died Jan. 5, 1997. 

Survivors are one daughter, Merna Greer of Beatrice; one son, Dr. Merton A. Quaife of Omaha; one sister, Emma Henderson of Loveland, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  He also was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. 

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church

Iva Wand  

ANSLEY -- Iva Belle Wand, 102, of Ansley died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow.   

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Ansley Cemetery with the Rev. Victor Crawford officiating. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.   

Mrs. Wand was born Oct. 31, 1898, to Charles and Cora (Leech) Lowder in her parents' sod house northeast of Westerville. She was the oldest of her four sisters and two brothers. She attended the Mount Custer Country School.   In 1923, she married Bill Wand in Loup City. They farmed in the Berwyn, Ansley and Mason City area raising corn, milk cows, horses and chickens. She attended the Ansley Baptist Church.  

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Sysel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Anna Reid of Longmont, Colo.; and one brother, Lyndon Lowder of Westerville.    

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Vivian Schmidli and Vida Quaife; and one brother, Oren Lowder.

Marjorie Jean Quaife Wesley  

Marjorie Jean Quaife passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in her 95th year. Jean, beloved wife of the late John Wesley, loved mother of Stephen Quaife and wife Nancy and cherished grandmother of Wesley and Julie. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews. 

A special thanks to the nurses at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital third floor east and Dr. W. Paul Rzepka for the loving care provided over the past few months. A very special thanks to Chaplain Ms. Catherine Thompson who will preside at the memorial service to be held Aug. 16, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. at Knox Heritage Place.  

In memory of Jean, donations may be made to the OTMH Charitable Corporation - Palliative Care Unit. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ward Funeral Home "Oakville Chapel".

Russ I. Olson

Russ I. Olson, 71, died May 3, 1995 in Tacoma. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Burien Elks, the Eagles Aerie #3. He was actively involved in bowling, gardening and his true passion, ballroom dancing. He had retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 31 years of service and had served as the Grand Vice President of the Railroad Yard Masters of America. He was a decorated veteran having received a Bronze Star while serving his country in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude, Tacoma; children, Ellen (Jeff) Brown, Rhonda (Todd) Quaife, Seattle, Norma (Bruce) Briggs, Tacoma, M. William (Elizabeth) McConnell Jr., Portland, Mary Lou (Larry) Hertzberg, Tacoma; sister, Ruth Jacobson, Seattle; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Mon., May 8, 1995, 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Mon., May 8, 1995, 10:45 a.m., prior to the Mass.
