William the Conqueror in 1066 would rather have been a monk so he wore a
monks hood instead of a helmet. And the Norman French name he was given

I am retired form the Phoenix Police Dept. as of Jan 3,
1984. While so employed as a homicide detective I received a letter from
another Ron Quaife living in Washington. I can't recall the city but his
family was from Illinois and Minnesota so you might try there. We couldn't
connect. Incidentally, we reside in Phoenix from Nov. to May so this was
forwarded from Montana. Our Phoenix address is 521 W. Hononegh #1,
Phoenix, AZ 602-780-0623. We plan to leave for Montana My 12, 1991 and our
phone there is 406-837-6293. Good luck! P.S. I just spoke with my parents

John and Diana (Moreton) Quaife immigrated form
England coming to America with 3 sons, Stephen, Albert and Charles. All
but Stephen located in NE Iowa near Ionia and Nashua. They were the
founders and helped build the Little Brown Church located near Nashua,
Iowa. Stephen homesteaded near Robinson, Kansas. He married Mary Ellen
Abrams. My father was the 3rd son of Stephen and Mary Quaife. |

Most were engaged in farming although some had
military careers. My Grandfather Stephen was a Fife Major in the Union
Army during the Civil War |

I have several mailings form various Quaife's through out
the nation with whom I have corresponded in recent years. I have a history
and genealogy chart made by Ms. Fannie Quaife, now deceased, of Cedar
Falls, Iowa which is quite a complete genealogy in my files. I will be
willing to share information in detail with those who might wish specific
information. This chart goes back to 1066. |

family has survived? |
The portions of the Quaife family of whom I
know have been good citizens and have made contributions in numerous ways.
I fine few dark horses in the family history and numerous ones who have
made worthwhile contributions. |
| Any other comments? |
I have found in the portions of family history
that have com to me many persons who have made good contributions to the
political, military and social as well as religious record of our country.
Of course there are a few who have made mistakes and have failed in some
part of life, but for the most part I have found our family record one of
which we may be reasonably proud. I have made considerable effort in
recent years to fill in some of the record and have found several names. I
have the rather complete record as recorded by Fannie Quaife of whom I
mentioned and the rather complete run down of the descendents of Johan and
Diana Quaife including their sons Charles and Albert of which I would be
glad to share a copy if you desire. This also included my grandfather
Stephen, a son of John and Diana.
As for myself, I have been a Minister in the United Methodist Church in
the Nebraska Annual Conference since March 1, 1924. I have served
pastorates throughout the state of Nebraska.
Our son is a Specialist in Nuclear Medicine and has recently retired
from active medical career at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Our daughter is the wife of another United Methodist Minister, Rev. J.
Waldo Greer and she is a Consecrated Diaconal Minister and now serving as
Director of Special Education at Epworth Village, York Nebraska, a
Methodist Home for handicapped and disturbed youth. They have three
children: Dale, Donald and Janice. Donald is an ordained Methodist
Minister and Pastor of churches at Falls City, Nebraska. Janice is a
Special Education teacher of handicapped youth and the wife of another
United Methodist Minister, Bradley DeHaven.
I have been retired for a number of years but still maintain membership
in the Nebraska Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. I have
one brother, Virgil Lewis Quaife of Cairo, Nebraska and one sister, Mrs.
Emma Quaife Henderson of Boulder, Colorado, a widow.
As you have discovered I am rather interested in our family history and
would certainly be glad to have a copy of your findings as well as sharing
further in detail some of my records. Just yesterday I received a call
reporting the death of a cousin of ours, Mr. Donald Quaife of Springfield,
Missouri. His wife Dorothy survives. |
